Matthieu Delabie (EN) - Saturday November 21th - 9:00 UTC
Climate change and biodiversity loss are deeply interconnected challenges, with each accelerating the impact of the other. This session explores the critical role standards play in fostering sustainable practices that protect ecosystems, support biodiversity, and mitigate climate risks. Discover how standardized approaches can help policymakers and organizations align biodiversity goals with climate action for a resilient, nature-positive future.
Title: “Intergenerational Equity and Climate Change”
Offered in: English
Kate Salter (EN) - Saturday November 16th - 11:00 UTC
Equity and justice is a guiding principle in the ISO Net Zero Guidelines, which underscores the importance of ensuring that the burdens and benefits of climate change, including responsibility for costs, are equitably shared. This session explores the concepts related to intergenerational equity and the evolving body of case law related to intergenerational equity and climate change.
Title : “Decarbonizing Cities: Unleashing the Power of Untapped Data Sources”
Offered in: English
Fouzi Benkhelifa, Dr. Phil DeCOLA - Thursday November 14th - 14:30 UTC
Cities cover 70% of global GHG emissions. They are also 70% of the solution of the climate challenge. Can we still decarbonize cities with spreadsheets? Of course, tables and pie-charts can help with awareness raising but when it comes to targeting hotspots, tracking efforts and reveal low-hanging fruits, cities need maps and accurate insights. It's past time for cities to move to untapped sources such as ground sensors, IoT and geolocation data, satellite imageries combined with AI techniques to drive their day-to-day decarbonization roadmap. During this session, we will uncover a set of bottom-up data-driven technology chains and show how some pioneer cities such as City of Paris are unleashing the power of this new generation of decision-making tools to accelerate urban decarbonization. These major advances are feeding the ongoing work at ISO in the development of greenhouse gas standards for urban environments.
Title : “Gender and Climate Change”
Offered in: English
Hira Amjad, Sunungurai Dominica - Wednesday November 20th - 13:00 UTC
The ISO Adaptation to Climate Change standards underscore the importance of considering gender specific needs when carrying out a risk assessment. Gender is an important consideration as women and men often experience climate change impacts differently due to social, economic, and cultural factors. Women, particularly in low-income and marginalized communities, are frequently more vulnerable to climate impacts due to limited access to resources, land, and decision-making opportunities. This panel session brings together gender and climate change specialisrs to discuss how gender considerations promote equity, enhance resilience, and lead to more effective and sustainable climate solutions.
Title: “Developing an Organizational Greenhouse Gas Inventory”
Offered in: English, Spanish, Arabic
Arman Velani (EN) - Saturday November 16th - 13:00 UTC
Stephania Añazco Rivera (ES) - Tuesday November 19th - 14:00 UTC
Hasan Alhamwi (AR) - Thursday November 21th - 14:00 UTC
The establishment of a robust baseline greenhouse gas inventory is important to being able to prioritize and determine pathways to achieve net-zero. This professional development session provides training on organizational quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, with particular attention to the requirements of ISO 14064-1. Topics to be covered include differences and similarities between ISO 14064-1 and GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, creating a database of emissions factors, input data required for GHG inventory, upstream and downstream emissions accounting, and sensitivity analysis.
